Drying Clothes
Believe it or not but it is actually possible to use a dehumidifier of the purpose of drying clothes!
The dehumidifier simultaneously sucks the moisture out of the air and blows dry air over the top of the wet clothes.
My basic physics understanding tells me that this is a good thing! The less moisture in the air then the more water particles that are able to evaporate from the surface which leads to faster drying!
So how does this work? Well you can’t just suck the water vapour out of the air - it has to go somewhere - and where it goes is right to the back of the machine where the liquid water is stored.
The humidity in the back of the machine is moisture off soggy clothes - eugh gross! - but no wait .. it’s not the mixture of stale sweat, gravy and egg that you might think it is. It is in fact 100% pure clean water!
Good enough to drink? Well no not really, the inside of the dehumidifier unit is not really deigned to be sterile - so all of the bits of solder and metal that the water runs over could well be adding a bit of contamination and lead into the water making in unsafe to drink - but still perfectly good for house plants, pets etc.
